Ashutosh Kumar Pandey on KBC 17, moments before attempting the ₹12.50 lakh question.

The second episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 left viewers stunned when a contestant missed out on the ₹12.50 lakh prize over a science-related question linked to tech billionaires Mark Zuckerberg and Sergey Brin.
Ashutosh Kumar Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, played confidently through the first 11 questions. However, when faced with the 12th — “Which award, founded by tech leaders like Mark Zuckerberg and Sergey Brin, is nicknamed the ‘Oscars of Science’?” — he faltered.
The options were:
A) Edison Prize
B) Breakthrough Prize
C) Millennium Prize
D) Eureka Award
With no lifelines left, Pandey chose Option C: Millennium Prize, which turned out to be incorrect. Host Amitabh Bachchan revealed the correct answer — Option B: Breakthrough Prize.
As a result, Pandey’s winnings dropped from a potential ₹12.50 lakh to ₹5 lakh, which he took home.
